Prior week 202K revised to 203K<\/li>\n<li>4 week moving average of initial jobless claims 209.5K versus 208.0K last week.<\/li>\n<li>Continuing claims 1.794M vs 1.840M estimate. Prior week 1.841M revised to 1.832M.<\/li>\n<li>4 week moving average of continuing claims 1.823M vs 1.837M last week.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Initial jobless claims area a weekly report of the US Department of the number of individuals filing for unemployment insurance for the first time. As a key leading indicator, this data signals changes in the labor market, impacting financial markets and helping forecast unemployment rates.<\/p>\n<p>The move higher in the initial jobless claims takes the level back away from the low levels seen over the last few weeks. However at 219K, the levels is still relatively low.<\/p>\n<p>The Low hire\/low fire scenario is still the most popular theme for this series of data.  Recall the US jobs report released last week came in at +178K which was higher than the 60K or so estimate, but that erased the -134K from the prior month indicative of a steady jobs.
