The benchmark 10-year Treasury yield is up 3.4 basis points to 4.632%, while the 2-year yield has climbed 3.2 basis points to 4.246%, helping to widen the interest rate advantage in favor of the dollar.

Technically, the move has carried the pair above the July 1 high at 162.833, pushing USDJPY to its highest level in nearly 40 years. The session high has reached 162.89, keeping buyers firmly in control of the near-term trend.

As highlighted in today’s Kickstart video, yesterday’s decline found willing buyers against an upward-sloping trendline before the price rebounded into the swing area between 162.399 and 162.508. That former resistance zone successfully held as support during the Asian session today, providing buyers with the platform for another leg higher. The rally gathered momentum through the European morning and continued into the early North American session as buyers pressed to fresh cycle highs.

With the break to a new 2026 high, the technical picture remains firmly tilted in favor of the bulls. More importantly, there is little in the way of meaningful chart resistance until the highs from November 1986, which come in near 164.50. That leaves plenty of room for upside momentum to continue, although traders will remain alert to the possibility of intervention rhetoric from Japanese officials as the pair continues to trade at levels not seen in decades.

This article was written by Greg Michalowski at investinglive.com.

The USDJPY is extending to the upside once again, supported by rising U.S. Treasury yields and persistent demand for the U.S. dollar.
