From overnight:\u00a0Trump vows crushing new economic operation against Iran, warns allies<\/a><\/p>\n

The threat by Trump pretty much underscores that we are still nowhere near any deal between the two sides. And after trying to brute force his way to getting Iran to concede, Trump is now having to find a different way of achieving that goal.<\/p>\n

But considering how US sanctions have not worked in the past, I’m not sure how much more they can push the issue from an economic perspective. So, we’ll see.<\/p>\n

In any case, Iran remains unfazed with foreign minister Araghchi saying that:<\/p>\n

“The so-called \u201cEconomic D-Day\u201d is a diversion from America’s own crisis: unprecedented debt & surging interest costs. <\/p>\n

Doubling down on failed policies will only bring further defeat\u2014and enmity of Iranians. US economic terrorism threatens global economy and sovereignty worldwide.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

That seems to be the typical response from Iran in the wake of any of these threats. So, there’s nothing new here.<\/p>\n

But again, it just reinforces the narrative that we are not likely to see the conflict reach a peaceful transition just yet. And after all that has transpired since the end of June, it looks like we might not see a return to a ceasefire – at least not any time soon.<\/p>\n
