For background, this was the pipeline that was put into use at the start of the war and it directs oil across the country and to the Red Sea.<\/p>\n<p>However on Thursday morning, attacks &#8212; purportedly from Iraq &#8212; damaged a 100km long section of the pipe in several places. The image above is a pumping station that appears to be completely destroyed and there&#8217;s some talk there were eight separate hits.<\/p>\n<p>AP is out with a <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/yemen-houthis-saudi-shipping-mandeb-8c18d82c109a8ea91347ce53c0096c53\" rel=\"follow\">report <\/a>saying it will take 3-5 weeks to restore flows and others say it could be more than 6 weeks. The pipeline has a 7 mbpd capacity but was running below that in the 5 mbpd range. Some oil might flow through during repairs.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a hugely signficant event because it undoes all the progress the US has made with the Hormuz escorts and materially tightens the global oil market at a time when strategic reserve releases are dwindling.
