She has argued that persistent inflation risks and the possibility of higher energy costs spreading into other prices warrant further tightening. Losing that voice could make the public debate sound less hawkish. It would not, by itself, tell us that the ECB is finished raising rates.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\" class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\">How many people vote at ECB meetings?<\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\">The ECB\u2019s Governing Council has 27 members: six Executive Board members and the governors of the 21 euro area national central banks. At any given time, 21 have voting rights. All six Executive Board members, including Schnabel, have permanent votes; the governors rotate through the other 15 voting places each month. All 27 can take part in the discussion. <\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\">That makes Schnabel\u2019s position more consequential than one rotating vote, but the ECB generally seeks consensus. Her ability to shape the argument around inflation may matter more than a simple one vote calculation. If she leaves, the policy significance will depend heavily on who takes her place. <\/p>\n<p dir=\"auto\">For traders, I would separate the headline reaction from the policy implication. A confirmed departure could initially be read as a loss for the hawks, particularly if markets start to expect a less hawkish replacement. But the ECB raised its deposit rate to 2.50% in September, and the next move still depends on whether energy costs feed into broader prices and inflation expectations.
