OPEC+ kept November output targets unchanged, and a capacity review key to 2027 quotas has slipped to mid-November.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">On the diplomatic front, Iran&#8217;s parliament speaker reportedly said Tehran would reject new US peace proposals and keep the Strait of Hormuz shut until its conditions are met. Those comments could not be independently verified. The US has also withdrawn all its B-1 bombers from Britain&#8217;s RAF Fairford after a suspected Iran-linked plot against the base.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">FX<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The US dollar firmed against major currencies, with EUR\/USD sliding to its lowest since May 2025 amid French bond market stress and reports that Spanish government officials are preparing for an early election. MUFG recommended a new short EUR\/JPY trade, citing euro-area fragmentation risk and expectations of further Bank of Japan tightening.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">USD\/JPY held near 158 despite a shift in tone from Tokyo. Economy Minister Kiuchi said on Friday that Japan was no longer in deflation. Finance Minister Katayama, also back on Friday,\u00a0said the government was not reflationist and stood ready with the US to act against excessive volatility.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Japan<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">BOJ Deputy Governor Uchida described artificial intelligence as a large positive demand shock that has lifted prices and eased financial conditions, while warning of correction risk if profits fail to follow. Japan&#8217;s services PMI eased to 51.3, but hiring accelerated and output prices rose sharply, and S&amp;P Global said the BOJ could hike as soon as October. The Nikkei jumped around 2.5% to a three-month high by midday, led by AI-related stocks, as equities across the region firmed.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Australia and New Zealand<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Australia&#8217;s services PMI eased to 51.9 as firms cut staff and price pressures intensified, with S&amp;P Global saying that could keep the Reserve Bank leaning hawkish. Treasurer Jim Chalmers called the Iran war an economic disaster and warned rising bond yields would add billions to debt servicing costs.
