Just over a week ago, there were all kinds of signs that the US and Canada were close on a trade deal, with an aim to wrap it up before the G7 but that hasn’t happened. Then again, almost no one else has been able to make a trade deal with Trump either. At some point the dam will have to break, though I would assume the July 9 Liberation Day tariff deadline will be delayed.
USD/CAD has faded like most of the USD moves today but it’s complicated by CAD’s reliance on oil exports with crude now down 12% from the intraday high.
