S&P 500 Index opens in positive territory for fourth straight day

  • Wall Street’s main indexes continue to push higher on Friday.
  • Technology shares post strong gains after the opening bell.
  • S&P 500 Energy Index trades in the negative territory.

Major equity indexes started the last day of the week in the positive territory as risk flows continue to dominate the financial markets. As of writing, the S&P 500 Index was up 0.45% on the day at 4,387, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was rising 0.6% at 35,025 and the Nasdaq Composite was gaining 0.15% at 14,706.

Among the 11 major S&P 500 sectors, the Communication Services Index is up nearly 1% after the opening bell. On the other hand, the Energy Index is posting small losses as the crude oil rally loses steam. Currently, the barrel of West Texas Intermediate is down 0.1% at $71.60.

Later in the session, the IHS Markit will release the preliminary Manufacturing and Services PMI reports for July.
