Bloomberg reports that Japan’s top trade negotiator, Ryosei Akazawa, expects a trade deal with the US to spare Tokyo from higher auto tariffs. Akazawa said that if they reach a deal with the US it should secure special
treatment for Japan, and exclude it from rules that apply to most
countries. As a reminder, the US imposed a 25% tariff on cars and car parts, which is Japan’s most important exports.
