I don’t take this as a meaningful headline but oil prices are ticking lower on it. A US plane arrived in Islamabad today’ that presumably carrying JD Vance. He wouldn’t be going there if Iran hadn’t already agreed to talks, despite some of the rhetoric that’s been floating around.

Update: Trump confirms that Vance is on the way.

The same Iranian official also said that ‘positive efforts’ are underway by Pakistan to end the US blockade of Iran. Several reports in the past hour pushed back against the idea that Pakistan had asked the US to abandon its blockade.

Another tidbit that just crossed is that Iran has opened the main airports in Tehran. Would they be doing that without strong signs of a deal, or real fears that the US would attack them during negotiations again?

A third good sign comes from Israel-Lebanon where Israeli media reports that a second round of talks will take place Thursday in Washington. That suggests the ceasefire will be extended, at least.

Update: From the JD Vance report above in the New York Post, the President also talked with the reporter about the talks and goals and said:

“Get rid of their nuclear weapons. That’s all very simple,” he said. “There will be no nuclear weapon.” … Asked whether the US knows who is leading Iran, Trump said: “We have pretty good ideas, and we think we’re dealing with the right people.”

There were questions on the weekend about whether there was a big rift between negotiators and the IRGC.
